Make Your Smile Bright!

October 30, 2014 / John Welches / News

How to Make Your Smile Bright

With the holidays coming up, there are so many opportunities and events that would benefit from your sparkling white smile. A bright smile can light up a room, make you more confident, and even make you look younger. No matter the occasion, there are a few ways to brighten up your smile quickly.

It’s worth noting that if you can get a last-minute whitening appointment in with Dr. Real, that’s your best bet for the highest-quality whitening. It’ll be quicker and better than anything you can buy over the counter. That said, if you’re missing the budget or there aren’t any appointments open before your teeth need to be whitened, there are a few other options.

What happens in the dental office is usually that Dr. Real will apply a whitening gel to your teeth and then use a laser to whiten and bleach them. The ingredients used in a dental office are usually between 15 and 35 percent hydrogen peroxide, whereas over-the-counter whiteners are 3 to 10 percent.

They still can get the job done, just not as well. A few days or a week before your event, try using whitening strips, whitening trays, or a whitening toothpaste to get a brighter smile. The strips and trays tend to work better than the toothpastes, seeing as toothpastes generally just remove the surface stains while the strips and trays go deeper.

You can also use makeup to make your smile look brighter. Lipsticks with a blue undertone or a darker bronzer will make your lips and skin contrast more with your teeth, making them look brighter. Also try to avoid coffee, wine, and cigarettes before your event so your teeth aren’t stained.

If you have any questions about how to whiten your smile on short notice, give Dr. Real a call at (714) 525-2888 to make an appointment.
